Will Alma return to Italy?
The authorities of Kazakhstan maintain that they will allow Alma Shalabayeva to return to Italy, on condition that she returns to Kazakhstan in order to face trial - reports “Corriere della Sera” daily.
Alma Shalabayeva’s case shook Italy as it became one of prevalent subjects raised in the Italian media.
“Corriere della Sera” published Kazakh authorities’ responses to questions concerning the deportation of Alma Shalabayeva and her 6-year-old daughter from Italy to Kazakhstan. The questions were addressed to the Prime Minister, Serik Akhmetov, however, it was the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan who replied thusly:
“From a legal point of view we do not reject the possibility of Alma Shalabayeva and her daughter returning to Italy. In order to be permitted to do so, she will have to apply to appropriate competent authorities in Kazakhstan for a travel permit, including international travel. In this case, Kazakhstan will require guarantees from Rome.”
