In the last years, considerable criticism arose over the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL), which used to be excessively passive in the wake of a growing trend of misuse of its mechanisms by authoritarian states.

Ingancio Sanchez Amor, addressed a letter to the Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee at the National Assembly of the French Republic, E. Guigou, requesting that it be delivered to all Committee members. In his letter, he appealed to the French government not to extradite the Mukhtar Ablyazov.

11.03.2015 Muratbek Ketebayev left Spain and went back to Poland, where since December 2013 he has a refugee status. It ended the procedure, through which the regime of Nursultan Nazarbayev tried to obtain Ketebayev’s extradition from Spain to Kazakhstan.

On Friday 27 February, 2015, in the German parliament Bundestag in Berlin, the Open Dialog Foundation presented its newest report „The Interpol system is in need of reform".

A court in Madrid has ordered the release of the Kazakh dissident, Muratbek Ketebayev from custody. Thus, the judges found the arguments of the Spanish Embassy in Poland, which had confirmed the day before that he enjoys refugee status in Poland and called for his release.

In the current week, Members of the European Parliament from two political groups have intervened in the case of Mr Muratbek Ketebayev, Kazakh political and social activist, who was arrested on December 27, 2014, in Madrid.

The Spanish senator Urko Aiartza has filed a written inquiry concerning the Kazakh activist and oppositionist Muratbek Ketebayev.

Another Kazakh dissident has been arrested by Spanish police on the basis of an Interpol letter, citingfalse criminal allegationsas reasons for the detention.

PACE has published a statement concerning the case of the Kazakh dissident, Mukhtar Ablyazov, which has so far been signed by eight its members, such as the head of Human Rights Committee at the Bundestag Frank Schwabe, Pieter Omtzigt, Mailis Reps and Kimmo Sasi.

Today, the Court of Appeal in Lyon held the main hearing in the extradition proceedings of Mukhtar Ablyazov, a long-time oppositionist of the President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev. Since July 2013, Ablyazov has been remanded in custody.
