Statement from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) on Mukhtar Ablyazov
PACE has published a statement concerning the case of the Kazakh dissident, Mukhtar Ablyazov, which has so far been signed by eight its members, such as the head of Human Rights Committee at the Bundestag Frank Schwabe, Pieter Omtzigt, Mailis Reps and Kimmo Sasi.
The signatories of the statement have stressed that Ukraine’s extradition request is a remnant of the previous regime of Yanukovych and the new authorities should distance themselves from the demands to extradite Ablyazov. At the same time, the statement urges the French, Spanish and Czech governments no to allow the extradition of Ablyazov’s coworkers to Russia, Ukraine or Kazakhstan.
