Garry Kasparov, former world chess champion, founder of Solidarnost party and notorious opponent to the Putin regime, will held in Paris on Thursday 16th of October, a press conference at 10:30 am at the Law firm Lysias Partners. The day after, he will be at the Court of Appeal of Lyon, as a defense witness at the hearing where judges will consider the request by Russia to extradite Mukhtar Ablyazov, a political refugee and the Kazakh opposition leader of the Nazarbayev regime.

During his press conference, Garry Kasparov will be accompanied by Madina Ablyazova, eldest daughter of Mukhtar Ablyazov, and Bruno Rebstock, one of his lawyers. At the hearing in Lyon, Ablyazov's Counsels will call as a witness not only Garry Kasparov but Lev Ponomarev (Russia's political and civic activist, member of Solidarnost, leader of the Russian movement "For Human Rights ") and Mark Feygin (lawyer of “Pussy Riot”) and several NGOs. These witnesses and the lawyers will try to convince the investigating chamber of the Court of Appeal of Lyon that it would be particularly inappropriate to extradite Mukhtar Ablyazov to Russia, in particular for the following reasons:

- In the case of a political opponent of Kazakhstan, he won't be given a fair trial in Russia, a country that does not know the rule of law or the independence of the judiciary, where 'torture is practiced and where forced labor are part of the daily "labor camps" (gulags, in Russian).

- six countries of the European Union, where the rule of law prevails, recently issued decisions favorable to the relatives and associates of Mukhtar Ablyazov persecuted for the same reasons that he is. The United Kingdom, Austria, the Czech Republic and Spain have all refused to extradite toUkraine, Russia and Kazakhstan people who are co-accused of Ablyazov of extradition and who have been subjected to requests of extradition similar to those which would be analyse by the Court of Appeal of Lyon. Meanwhile, Poland and Italy have granted political asylum to relatives of Mukhtar Ablyazov.
