Statement of Mark Feygin - the Russian lawyer of Mukhtar Ablyazov
Mark Feygin, the Russian lawyer of Mukhtar Ablyazov, clarified his client's asylum situation after inaccurate information was circulated by some media in recent days: "Mukhtar Ablyazov has already been granted the protection of political asylum in the United Kingdom. Therefore under the Geneva Convention he is protected internationally from being sent to Kazakhstan. He does not need to apply for asylum in France. However, there is a risk that if he is extradited to Russia, not only will his human rights be violated there, but he will also without doubt end up in the hands of the regime in Kazakhstan, irrespective of what country has granted him the protection of political asylum."
