Interrogation imminent for judge deciding on Shalabayeva’s expulsion
As reported by the Il Messaggero Italian daily, the judge who ruled on the deportation and expulsion of Alma Shalabayeva, the wife of Mukhtar Ablyazov, is to be interrogated regarding the issue in court.
The judge, Stefania Lavore presided over Shalabayeva’s case even before the latter was deported. The former’s lawyer Astolfo di Amato submitted a complaint which clearly stated that Shalabayeva’s other lawyers – Federico and Riccardo Olivo – were clear when stating during the trial that Shalabayeva was the wife of a Kazakhstan oppositionist and activist, and her expulsion would bring about a direct threat to her health and life. It appeared, however, the words were not included in the court session protocol, which formed the basis for the dissident’s spouse’s expulsion from Italy.
