Foreign news websites on court’s decision to extradite Ablyazov
International media and the global news community are commenting on Thursday’s extradition ruling by the French court in Aix-en-Provence that allows for the extradition of Kazakh dissident, Mukhtar Ablyazov.
Los Angeles Times quotes Ablyazov’s defence lawyer, Peter Sahlas: “This court wants to send Ablyazov, a refugee, straight to the very people he should be protected from. All human rights groups warn against his extradition over fears he will be tortured. He may also be sent to Kazakhstan, where he cannot get a fair trial.”
The Daily Mail has, among other materials, published a statement from Ablyazov’s wife, Alma Shalabayeva, who believes that extradition means a death sentence for her husband and that he will never see her or his children again.
