Il Messaggero states: Shalabayeva’s passport was valid
Il Messaggero, an Italian newspaper, one of the most popular in Rome and central Italy, has revisited the story of the case surrounding Alma Shalabayeva, the wife of dissident, Mukhtar Ablyazov. The March 13 issue of Il Messagero contains an article entitled “Shalabyeva. The passport was valid, she should not have been deported from Italy.” (Shalabayeva, il passaporto era valido. non doveva essere espulsa dall'Italia).
The article recounts, among other events, the efforts made by the ambassador of Kazakhstan in France in order to get through to the authorities of the Central African Republic. At the beginning of this year, the ambassador requested the authorities of the Central African Republic invalidate the regular and diplomatic passports that had been issued by the country, to the citizens of Kazakhstan. At the same time, the Embassy of Kazakhstan admitted in letters, that the documents issued by the Central African Republic were valid.
The Kazakh ambassador is said to have been pressurising the authorities of the Central African Republic, offering a review of the cooperation contract between the Central African Republic and Kazakhstan, in exchange for help with invalidating the documents.
In February 2014, the authorities of the Central African Republic informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Italy of the correspondence and pressure exerted by the representatives of the Kazakh authorities. They will soon hand over all the documents connected with this case to the MEP who is in charge of Alma’s case in Italy.
The author of the article draws two conclusions. He notes that Kazakhstan widely exerts pressures in order to facilitate Mukhtar Ablyazov’s extradition from France, and states that new sources of information will aid in concluding Alma’s case in Italy. She is currently charged with using false documents.
