Kazakhstan Democratic Choice opposition movement and its history © mukhtarablyazov.org

Kazakhstan Democratic Choice (KDC) became the second mass opposition movement in Kazakhstan to have gained social support and openly oppose the monopoly of power enjoyed by Nursultan Nazarbayev and his associates. The story of the KDC is an excellent illustration of the nature of Kazakhstan authoritarian regime, where the entirety of power became concentrated in the grip of a very narrow group of people, headed by the president, Nursultan Nazarbayev and the regime’s opponents are condemned to be officially persecuted, and subsequently forced to emigrate from Kazakhstan.
